Position: Staff Accountant
Reports to: Director of Accounting
Location: Washington, DC Headquarters
Status: non-exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
Working with general supervision, performs a variety of activities for the proper accounting of receipts, payables, and payroll of the headquarters office. Maintains records and documentation for accounting and human resource functions.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Process all payable transactions of the headquarters office. Includes: processing of all invoices and payments ensuring accuracy, proper documentation and approval. Identify and resolve any difference/disputes between vendor and ANERA. Maintain, secure and provide records necessary for 1099 compliance. Maintain required records, reports and files in an organized manner.
Process and record all receipts in the general ledger system for review and approval of Director of Accounting.
aintain neat and orderly records to support research as necessary. Prepare daily receipts report.
Process bi-monthly payroll. Balance payroll and accrued leave accounts. Ensure all appropriate benefit deductions, state, federal and local tax payments are made.
Maintain personnel files. Coordinate the completion and implementation of employee elections/changes in payroll and benefit plans. Provide updated benefit plan information to employees as appropriate. Ensure files are kept according to procedures and are confidential as appropriate.
Reconcile bank accounts and specified general ledger accounts.
Participate in and support the monthly and annual accounting closings.
Prepare both standard financial reports and ad hoc financial reports on request.
Compile and maintain a procedural manual for all job tasks.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Detail oriented, with strong organizational, administrative, analytical, and customer service skills. Knowledge of automated accounting systems, proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing software. Ability to manage multiple tasks with deadlines. Ability to deal effectively with vendors and staff, good interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of accounting concepts and practices; financial recordkeeping; methods of performing basic business mathematics calculations, and office management techniques. Ability to organize workflow and coordinate activities. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
MINIMUM DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
