ANERA first started its humanitarian aid work in early 1968, soon after the West Bank was occupied by Israel and thereby detached from Jordan. After several years of focusing on crisis relief needs of Palestinian refugees from the 1967 war, ANERA began in the mid-1970s to focus on job creation and sustainable development projects for all needy West Bank communities affected by the crisis. ANERA is known throughout Gaza since the early 1980s, when we began working to stimulate job creation and develop sustainable projects. In 1985, ANERA opened a relief office in Gaza with just three staff members. Humanitarian aid projects focused largely on agriculture, a major source of livelihood in the region. ANERA has been supporting local non-governmental organizations in Lebanon since the 1980s. In January 2006 we opened a rep-resentative humanitarian aid office in Beirut. ANERA works to aid Lebanese and Palestinian refugee communities to address urgent relief and aid needs and achieve longer-term development priorities. Learn more about what ANERA is doing in Lebanon.
ANERA has maintained a relief office with four local, full-time staff in Amman, Jordan since 2004. ANERA works with persons of all nationalities in need in Jordan and we are committed to expanding the scope and scale of our aid activities in the coming years.
