Professional & Vocational Training

Throughout our 40+ years, ANERA has opened doors to vocational and higher education institutions. We provide financial assistance and work with institutions to develop curricula that educate and train people in skills needed by local industries. This includes programs in nursing, information technology, tourism and other professional, technical skills.

Lebanon

As the jobless rate soars in Lebanon, ANERA is committed to providing vocational training opportunities for jobless youth in need of skills.

In 2010, ANERA has partnered with Reach Out To Asia to organize an 18-month program, which includes vocational training and non-formal education through community-based organizations. The program will benefit 400 young people annually in and around the Nahr El Bared refugee camp in northern Lebanon. ANERA has rebuilt the vocational training center as well as a community center and other service centers to encourage revitalization of the camp that was destroyed in 2007 during three months of conflict. Also in 2010, ANERA continues to support the Amel Association, a well-established non-profit in Lebanon, to help them train men and women in vocational skills to boost their incomes, whether through home businesses or as staff in established businesses. Amel has 13 centers throughout Lebanon with 800 trainees taking part annually in a range of courses, from hairdressing and graphic design to telephone repair and nursing.

In 2008, ANERA rehabilitated the catering school facilities and opened a restaurant training complex, placement office and IT center at the Al Kafaat Foundation. Al Kafaat has a 50-year history of providing medical, rehabilitation, educational, and employment services to individuals with special needs at centers scattered in and around Beirut.

Through the DHIAFEE (Developing the Hospitality Industry's Abilities-Fostering Economic Expansion) program, ANERA worked with owners of 50 cottage inns throughout Lebanon to help them create plans for developing and improving their facilities to better meet the needs of potential clients and improve their marketing strategies. The program also taught the technical skills necessary for day-to-day management of the inns.

Following the 2006 war in southern Lebanon, ANERA helped launch the Integrating ICT into Livelihood Recovery Effort to restore capacities of community-based organizations through education and vocational training and IT initiatives in order to meet local needs and promote reconciliation and understanding, especially among youth.
