Throughout our 40 years, ANERA has opened doors to vocational and higher education institutions. We provide financial assistance and work with institutions to develop curricula that educate and train people in skills needed by local industries. This includes programs in nursing, information technology, tourism and other professional, technical skills.
In Lebanon where the jobless rate is soaring, ANERA has been committed to providing vocational training opportunities for jobless youth in need of skills.
In 2010, with funds from the U.S. Agency for International Development, ANERA completed a project to rebuild a vocational training center adjacent to the Nahr El Bared refugee camp (read more) and supported training programs with the Amel Association aimed at helping students can find employment either with established businesses or earn extra income from their homes.
In 2008, ANERA rehabilitated the catering school facilities and opened a restaurant training complex, a placement office and IT center at the Al-Kafaat Foundation. Al-Kafaat has a 50-year history of providing medical, rehabilitation, educational, and employment services to individuals with special needs at centers scattered in and around Beirut.
Through the DHIAFEE (Developing the Hospitality Industry's Abilities-Fostering Economic Expansion) program, ANERA worked with owners of 50 cottage inns throughout Lebanon to help them create plans for developing and improving their facilities to better meet the needs of potential clients and improve their marketing strategies. The program also taught the technical skills necessary for day-to-day management of the inns.
One of ANERA’s major initiatives in the past several years is the establishment of IT Centers of Excellence, where students are equipped with the skills to compete in a global marketplace. To learn more, please visit our Information Technology page.
