World Blood Donor Day

Posted in:

World Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year globally on June 14.

On June 14th, Anera honors the selfless and life-saving gifts of blood given by donors worldwide. Established in 2004, World Blood Donor Day falls on the birthday of Dr. Karl Landsteiner, who was the first to classify blood types, making blood donation possible.

World Blood Donor Day also acts as a call to action for health and governmental authorities to ensure hospitals around the world have access to adequate blood resources.

Across the world, blood transfusions save millions of lives every year. They are especially crucial for pregnant people, who are more likely to require blood due to the blood loss and complications that occur during childbirth.

In the Levant, hospitals and clinics are suffering from a lack of blood supply, relying on donations that are simply not enough to meet the urgent demand of Palestinians, Lebanese, and Jordanians. Due to the recent restrictions on humanitarian aid, these healthcare centers are suffering even more.

Anera is dedicated to providing aid by delivering thousands of blood bags to the Central Blood Bank in Gaza. Join us by donating below.
