Launching a WASH project with the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund

Anera launches an emergency WASH project funded by the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund to support conflict-affected communities in Lebanon

BEIRUT, Lebanon (15 Sept. 2026) — Anera is launching a new emergency water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) project funded by the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund (LHF) to support conflict-affected and vulnerable populations across South Lebanon, Nabatieh, Mount Lebanon, and Beirut Governorates.

Running from August 2026 through February 2027, the project, Provision of Emergency WASH Assistance to Conflict-Affected Populations in the South, Nabatieh, Mount Lebanon, and Beirut Governorates, will provide essential hygiene supplies, emergency water and sanitation services, and rehabilitation of critical WASH infrastructure in communities and collective shelters affected by conflict.

Funded by the LHF, the project will respond to immediate WASH needs while helping restore access to safe water and sanitation services for people in areas affected by displacement and damage to essential infrastructure.

Supporting people in collective shelters

Anera will distribute 3,554 emergency hygiene kits, including family hygiene kits, menstrual hygiene management kits, baby kits and laundry kits, in addition to cleaning and disinfection kits for collective centers, across collective shelters in South Lebanon, Nabatieh, Mount Lebanon, and Beirut Governorates.

These supplies will help people maintain basic hygiene and dignity in settings where access to water, sanitation and essential hygiene items can be limited.

Restoring damaged WASH infrastructure

In Jezzine, Saida, and Tyre, Anera will assess damage to WASH infrastructure in coordination with the WASH sector and the South Lebanon Water Establishment. Based on identified needs, the project will support the installation, rehabilitation, and maintenance of water storage tanks, water heaters, and WASH facilities, including connections to existing water networks.

The project will also provide emergency water and sanitation services to collective shelters, including bottled water, desludging services, and water trucking, helping ensure that people living in temporary accommodation can access essential services.

Improving water quality

To help reduce risks associated with unsafe water, Anera will install five filtration units in five collective shelters, as well as one community-level filtration system in an affected village. The intervention will include the labor and associated support needed to install and operate the community-level system.

Reaching communities that are difficult to access

Anera will also provide emergency WASH support to hard-to-reach and returnee communities in Kfour and Srifa, extending assistance to people facing barriers to accessing essential water and sanitation services.

“Access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene is fundamental to health and dignity, particularly for people who have been displaced or whose communities and infrastructure have been affected by conflict,” said Samar El Yassir, Anera’s Country Director in Lebanon and Jordan. “Through this project, we are addressing immediate needs while also helping restore essential WASH services in affected communities.”

Across the targeted governorates, the project will address urgent WASH needs while helping restore essential services through hygiene supplies, emergency water and sanitation support, water-quality interventions, and infrastructure repairs. Anera, under the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund (LHF) funded project, will prioritize collective shelters and communities most affected by displacement, damage, and limited access to basic services, working with local authorities and WASH partners to tailor assistance to identified needs.

Through this seven-month intervention, Anera, funded by the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund is supporting conflict-affected people not only with essential WASH supplies and services, but also with the infrastructure and systems needed to restore safer and more reliable access to water and sanitation.
