After Amputation, Qais Found a Path Forward at Al Jalil

Qais is a young man from Jenin whose injury left doctors with no choice but to amputate his leg. For many, that would have been the end of the road. For Qais, it was the beginning of a different one.

Al Jalil Society is a long-standing, community-based rehabilitation and physiotherapy center in Jenin dedicated to serving individuals with physical disabilities and mobility challenges.

Al Jalil’s original facility, located in the Jenin Refugee Camp, was destroyed when the Israeli military entered the camp, and in May 2025, the team moved to a new location. While they could not deliver the same level of care, they kept services running without interruption. “The important thing,” one staff member says, “was that the association’s services continued.”

With support from Anera through its efforts to provide emergency support to the Palestinian healthcare system, Al Jalil has been able to develop new departments and introduce specialized equipment, expanding what its team can offer to patients and families across Jenin Governorate.

“Anera helped us by developing departments and introducing new equipment,” says one of the center’s staff. “Now the specialists are able to fully use their skills and capabilities.”

When Qais arrived, the team took measurements, began physical therapy, and fitted him with a prosthetic limb, offering him a path forward. For Qais, the change has been profound.

“I become curious to go out and see life again,” he says.
