Carpenter in Gaza Finds Hope

Salim Al Madhoun is one of the participants in Anera’s We Can project, where he gained carpentry skills and support that helped him grow his business despite the difficult conditions in Gaza. Using reclaimed materials and battery-powered tools, Salim continues working through electricity shortages while building a more stable source of income for himself and his family.
My name is Salim Al Madhoun. I benefited from the carpentry project, which is part of Anera’s We Can project. Today, I will make a chair for you based on their request. I make whatever customers request, and today I’ve been asked to make a sample chair. I will show you how I make it. Since joining the project, I have benefited. My income has increased, and my overall situation has improved.
I have been a beneficiary of the project for the past two months. As my workload increased, more people became aware of my work, and demand grew. More customers started placing orders. We made this chair as a sample using reclaimed pallet wood. With the support provided by the organization (Anera), including battery-powered drills, I was able to increase my income, as demand for my work grew.
I also began doing on-site installations, especially given the ongoing power outages in the Gaza Strip. People still need services despite the electricity shortages. While many lack electricity, I have battery-powered tools that allow me to continue working and serving my community.
