Responding to the Crisis in Jenin, West Bank

Posted in: ,

Even as the war in Gaza has raged since October, the West Bank has also been subjected to violence at levels not seen in decades. Jenin, in the north of the West Bank, has been one of the areas most impacted by the Israeli military operations. Many children are facing prolonged absences from schools, as the closures and destruction of roads have forced schools to close. Often, families living in Jenin Refugee Camp leave the camp each night to avoid the frequent violent incursions and have been sleeping at the homes of relatives, friends, or wherever they can.

With the support of Muslim Aid USA, Anera has been responding to help support families impacted by the conflict. To support families displaced from their homes, we have distributed hygiene kits and women’s dignity kits to 100 families, with supplies sufficient for 500 people. And we have given learning and psychosocial packs to 500 children. Children are at risk of significant learning loss due to the prolonged period closed schools, threats to their safety and acute emotional stressors.

Also with Muslim Aid USA’s funding, we have distributed medicines and supplies to treat up to 8,000 emergency room patients for one month at Jenin Government Hospital. We have also provided nine defibrillators to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, which we estimate will be used to provide emergency care to 600 patients every month.
