Anera and Whish Community Support Farmers in Southern Lebanon

BEIRUT, Lebanon (June 23, 2026) — Today, Anera launched a new project with support from Whish Community, a Washington, DC–based Fintech for Good nonprofit, to support farmers in southern Lebanon with urgently needed agricultural assistance. The project aims to help farming families sustain their livelihoods, strengthen local food production and build resilience in the face of Lebanon’s ongoing economic and humanitarian crises. The initiative is being implemented in close coordination with Lebanon’s Ministry of Agriculture.
The program will provide cash assistance to 45 farmers and an estimated 250 people directly benefiting in the districts of Nabatieh, Hasbaya and Marjayoun. Each participating farmer will receive $400 in cash assistance, enabling them to purchase essential agricultural inputs and support their farming activities. The assistance aims to help prevent rising livestock mortality, avoid missed planting seasons and reduce the risk of long-term declines in local dairy, meat and crop production.
“As WHISH Community launches its first partnership,” says Nadia Alami, CEO, Whish Community, “we are honored to work alongside Anera, a trusted and respected organization with a long history of serving communities across Lebanon. The Board deliberately chose Anera because of its proven ability to deliver meaningful impact where it is needed most. At WHISH Community, we believe that Fintech for Good is about creating pathways to opportunity, dignity, and hope. Through this livelihood-focused partnership, we are investing in the resilience of Lebanese communities and helping create opportunities for individuals and families to build a stronger future.”
The grant reflects a shared commitment between Anera and Whish Community to support vulnerable communities and strengthen local food security.
“Farmers across southern Lebanon continue to face significant challenges that threaten their livelihoods and local food systems,” said Anera Lebanon and Jordan Country Director Samar El Yassir. “We are grateful to Whish Community for its partnership and commitment to supporting agricultural communities at a critical time. This assistance will help farmers maintain production and strengthen their resilience in the face of ongoing hardship.”
Cash assistance will be distributed through Whish Money, with Anera and Whish Community managing the transfer process and monitoring the use of funds in accordance with project objectives.
For decades, Anera has worked alongside communities across Lebanon to improve livelihoods, strengthen food security and support sustainable development. This new partnership with Whish Community builds on those efforts by helping farmers continue producing food and sustaining their families during a challenging period.
