Anera Names New Country Director for Palestine

August 28, 2018 | Washington, DC  Anera (American Near East Refugee Aid) is pleased to announce that Jack Byrne has joined the organization as country director in Jerusalem. Jack is an experienced development professional with over eighteen years of field work experience in emergency, humanitarian, and development programs across four continents.

Jack will supervise Anera’s programs across the West Bank and Gaza, including health and education services, sustainable community development, water rehabilitation, agriculture, microfinance, and emergency relief aid.

Prior to joining Anera, Jack was chief of party in Gaza for Catholic Relief Services, where he managed a multiyear program working with local partners to provide training and food assistance to Gazans. He has also served as Country Director for the International Rescue Committee in Jordan, and led the organization’s response to humanitarian needs in Syria. Jack has a master’s degree from the School for International Training in Vermont.

“We are thrilled to have Jack joining us,” said Anera President Sean Carroll. “Not too many people have the international development and humanitarian experience and expertise he brings, and very few have spent the past two and half years living and working full-time in Gaza. As Gaza is likely to be a big humanitarian and development focus over the coming years, Anera is fortunate to have Jack on our team.”

ABOUT Anera

For 50 years, Anera has helped refugees and others hurt by conflicts in the Middle East live with dignity and purpose. Anera, which has no political or religious affiliation, works on the ground with partners in the West Bank, Gaza and Lebanon. We mobilize resources for immediate emergency relief and for sustainable, long-term health, education, and economic development. Our staff serve in their communities, navigating the politics that constrict progress to get help where it’s needed most. That’s how Anera has grown to deliver more than $60 million in programing annually, and it’s how we will keep building better lives until hope finds its way in the Middle East.
