Anera Partners with Egyptian Food Bank for Ramadan Assistance to Palestinians in Egypt

CAIRO, Egypt (March 16, 2026) — Anera, a humanitarian and development organization supporting vulnerable communities across the Middle East, has launched its first partnership initiative in Egypt to assist Palestinians displaced there during Ramadan. Working with the Egyptian Food Bank, Anera is distributing food and clothing to families in need as Ramadan reaches its peak.

Many Palestinian families in Egypt face ongoing food insecurity and material hardship. These challenges intensify during Ramadan, when food needs increase while income opportunities often decline. In Sinai, limited access to markets and prolonged displacement have left many households dependent on humanitarian support. Families frequently struggle to secure enough food for iftar and suhoor meals and often forgo essential clothing to prioritize basic nutrition.

“We are honored and grateful to be partnering with the Egyptian Food Bank to provide food assistance to Palestinian families in great need during the month of Ramadan,” said Anera’s CEO and president, Sean Carroll. “This, along with our continued humanitarian efforts inside Gaza, provide some desperately needed hope and sustenance to as many people as we can.”

As part of the initiative, Anera also hosted a community iftar on Thursday, March 12, bringing together 250 people for a shared meal to break the fast during Ramadan.

The partnership aims to ensure Palestinian families in Egypt, particularly in Sinai, have access to essential food and clothing during Ramadan, helping protect health and dignity while easing immediate hardship.

“This initiative marks a significant milestone for Anera as we partner with the Egyptian Food Bank to assist Palestinians in Egypt,” said Anera’s country director for Palestine, Khaled Rajab. “Our objective is to help vulnerable Palestinian households in Sinai to observe Ramadan with dignity, ensuring access to both essential food and clothing while alleviating immediate hardship.”

To achieve these objectives, the initiative has provided:

  • 2,500 food parcels containing staple items suitable for Ramadan consumption
  • 2,500 essential clothing parcels to address critical shortages and protect health and dignity
  • 250 iftar and 250 suhoor meals daily, totaling approximately 14,000 meals served throughout the month of Ramadan, easing immediate food stress and fostering community cohesion.
