September 15, 2020 | Beirut – Anera is pleased to announce that Humentum has chosen to award Samar El-Yassir, Anera’s Lebanon country director, with its 2020 Operational Excellence Award.

“COVID-19 has presented us with unprecedented global challenges, highlighting the importance of collective action and collaboration, both in terms of how we deal with one another and how we interact with the external environment,” said Humentum President and CEO Dr. Christine Sow.

“Now more than ever it is important to celebrate the extraordinary individuals and teams working to ensure impact despite the crisis. They have demonstrated the capacity to succeed in a difficult year and remind us why we are engaged in global development – to ensure a more equitable, just and resilient world.”

Anera President and CEO Sean Carroll said,

“Samar is a consummate international development professional. She is an expert in humanitarian assistance and sustainable, human development. This award recognizes her strategic vision, leadership and management skills, which have been put to almost unfathomable tests this year in Lebanon.”

Samar El-Yassir commented after being notified of the award,

“I am gratified to accept this award in recognition of the work that Anera has been doing in Lebanon. At a time when my country is dealing with not just one crisis but multiple serious challenges – economic collapse, COVID-19, the Beirut blast – Anera and our partners are adapting and responding to support the most vulnerable. It’s important that those of us in the humanitarian sector learn from each other. I look forward to hearing about the innovative work from all of the participants in this event.”

The online event was held on September 15 from 10 am – 11 am ET. It was open to the public and attracted guests from 67 countries.

Humentum’s annual awards honor partners for innovation, collaboration, and lasting impact. The awards this year recognized six “extraordinary people and teams.” The ceremony provided an opportunity to hear from each of them and learn about “their inspiring work and the lessons they can share.”
