A Report from Shifa Hospital in Gaza

Posted in: ,

Anera’s health team in Gaza today received these audio recordings from a doctor inside of Shifa Hospital, the largest hospital in Gaza.

Today they bombarded the main ICU of Shifa Hospital…shooting and bombardment everywhere. You hear it at every second here around the hospital. No one can get out of the hospital or come in. The situation is very, very dangerous. And the people who tried this morning to evacuate from the hospital have been shot at in the streets. Some of them got killed, some were injured. We are in the main building of the hospital and we cannot get to the outside because there is shooting everywhere.

We don’t have electricity or fuel. We don’t have water. We don’t even have food. The generator stopped working in the main subspecialty building.

In the middle of the night we lost electricity to the main ICU and the neonatal ICU. When our engineers left to go fix the issue, one of the team was hit in the neck and is now paralyzed. We also lost two patients on ventilators, one in the ICU and one in the neonatal unit.

It is a very, very dangerous, very critical situation.

We have a lot of killed people, who we would like to bury. But it is, I am sad to say, very dangerous. We’re trying to make a big grave in the hospital [grounds]. We tried yesterday, but the Israelis attacked the bulldozers that arrived to the hospital. So we stopped. But we don’t want to have any outbreaks due to these dead bodies. And the main refrigerator is not working because we don’t have the fuel to run it.
