Um Mohammad, from Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza, has been displaced six times with her family. Now living in makeshift shelters in Deir Al Balah, she describes their dire situation: "Only God knows what we’re going through. We lack everything—food, water, everything."
She explains how much her family missed having meat: "Before the war, we would receive meat during Eid al-Adha, but this year it arrived four months late due to border closures. I’m so happy it finally made its way to us today. The joy on my children's faces was priceless—they haven’t had meat in a very long time."
Um Mohammad eagerly prepares a special meal.
"Today, I’ll make them fatta, a traditional Gazan dish. Even though it’s still morning, I’ve already lit the fire to start cooking because they’re so excited to eat. We don’t have refrigerators in these shelters, so we have to cook it right away. But thank God," she adds with a smile, "you have made us happy today."
