Every year, the 22,700 residents of Qabatia, in the West Bank, face the same challenge – rainwater flooding.
Just two years ago, Qabatia and its surrounding area suffered 50 million shekels (more than $13 million) in losses from water damage to private and public property, with 300 homes damaged. The flooding impacted everyday life, preventing children from reaching schools and patients from reaching clinics and hospitals.
With funds from USAID, Anera’s Palestinian Community Infrastructure Development (PCID) project extended the existing storm water drainage channel by about 1,360 meters to serve a further 13,625 residents. This channel will divert and discharge storm water via a safe route, thereby increasing the safety of the public and their properties during the winter seasons.

This year, Anera worked with the village to put an end to this. The project was launched, creating 9,837 days of employment for Palestinian workers.

The storm water drainage channel was put to use before it was even finished, proving its usefulness and effectiveness!

But now, the 22,000 residents of Qabatia don't have to worry about flooding and water damage every winter.
