Water Trucking

Anera is currently implementing water distribution across both the north and south of the Gaza Strip. In the south, we are distributing an average of 39,626 gallons (150,000 liters) of potable water per day, providing three liters (68 fluid ounces or 0.8 gallons) per person and serving about 50,000 daily. In the north, we are distributing an average of 18,492 gallons (70,000 liters) per day, benefiting 23,300 people daily.

To carry out this intervention, Anera has contracted vetted and reliable local water companies operating in both regions. In the south, we maintain an average of 15 distribution points daily, where Anera coordinates with community representatives from targeted informal shelters and communities. These representatives help notify residents of truck arrival times to ensure organized and timely access. Beneficiaries come with their own containers to fill with potable water.

In the north, Anera operates through an average of eight distribution points per day, using the same community-coordinated approach to reach vulnerable populations in areas facing extreme shortages.

Hot Meal Deliveries

For the provision of hot meals, Anera is currently providing hot meals in Deir Al Balah and Khan Younis, where we are receiving the majority of our in-kind donations. At present, we are producing up to 6,000 hot meals per day in both locations. This activity will likely fade out quickly if borders remain closed, especially now that WCK distribution centers have been emptied out. We received in kind food items from WFP recently and are still using the stored food items that we had prior to the closure of borders.

This service is provided through local vendors, procured via a competitive process. Anera supplies the raw food items, and the vendor handles the preparation and delivery.

In south Gaza, Anera and local vendors use community kitchens to prepare and distribute the meals, each one designed to serve three people. The standard meal consists of cooked rice (average weight: 1 kg) and cooked vegetables with sauce (average weight: 0.5 kg).

Hot meals are transported to the targeted camps and communities using designated means of transportation. Anera’s field monitors accompany the distribution vehicles to each designated distribution point. These locations are selected based on comprehensive needs assessments and strategic operational planning conducted by Anera’s field teams. To ensure the safety and quality of the meals, field monitors oversee the entire process — including storage of raw materials, cooking, meal packaging, and the distribution itself.

Health Clinics

Anera operates primary healthcare field clinics in Deir El Balah and Khan Younis, treating 500 to 700 patients per day combined. Recently we also opened another center in Gaza City.

Dermatology accounts for 25% of total patient visits at our clinics due to rising hygiene-related illnesses. Among dermatology cases, 80% suffer from scabies, largely due to overcrowding and the impossibility of maintaining good sanitation in the circumstances.

40% of patients tested at our clinics show ketones in their urine, indicating starvation and poor nutritional intake. They test an average of 60 patients a day.

1–2 patients per day faint at the clinics due to low blood sugar and lack of food – and these numbers will rise if the borders remain closed. To date, the clinics have treated over 70,000 patients across 14 medical specialties, including wound management clinic, dermatology, pediatrics, orthopedics, obstetrics & gynecology, psychiatry, physiotherapy, internal medicine, NCD, endocrinology, ENT, urology, deworming clinic, and nutrition. Our clinics only refer patients to hospitals when IV treatment is required, thus easing pressure on Gaza’s overwhelmed hospital system. All clinics are connected via an offline electronic medical record system that tracks patient history, prescriptions, diagnostics, and referrals.

Clinics are registered with the Ministry of Health, ensuring quality and accountability amid severe system collapse.

Temporary Learning Spaces and Psychosocial Support Sessions

Anera currently operates 21 temporary learning spaces (12 more are currently on hold due to the situation) in the south of Gaza and psychosocial support sessions in 12 shelters per month in the north and middle area, particularly for displaced children and women, to address the trauma and educational loss and disruption caused by the war.
