Islamic Relief USA and Anera are providing 1,200 families with disabled members in the Palestinian camps with curated food parcels for Ramadan
In the southern reaches of Lebanon, within the Palestinian refugee camps, families grapple daily with the unforgiving grip of dire economic strife, compounded by the enduring scars of conflict, including the ongoing, undeclared war in southern Lebanon. Opportunities for work have dwindled, and incomes have plummeted, leaving countless households teetering on the brink of destitution.
With the arrival of the sacred month of Ramadan, the challenge of fasting amidst hardship looms ever larger in these communities. In the face of this adversity, the unwavering support of Islamic Relief USA provides hope through solidarity.
With the support of Islamic Relief USA, we are extending a lifeline to 1,200 families within the Palestinian camps. All of these households have family members with special needs. These families receive more than just sustenance — they receive vital food parcels with ingredients carefully chosen for the holy month of Ramadan.
These food parcels bring a bit of financial relief and allow families to observe Ramadan with dignity and serenity.
"This food parcel is a godsend for my family."
Nadia, a mother of three from Burj El Shemali Refugee Camp, shared her gratitude as one of the recipients. Her husband, toiling away in a car wash, grapples with hearing and speech impairments, limiting his ability to provide. Nadia's heartfelt words resonate deeply, "With these food parcels, it's a lifeline for us. We can use the money we would've spent on food to fulfill our children's needs.”
Adnan, a father of four daughters from El Buss Refugee Camp, also echoed his gratitude. His brother, beset by disability, was forced to abandon his education, thrusting Adnan into the role of caregiver. Adnan struggles to make ends meet on his sporadic laborer's wages. "This food parcel is a godsend for my family. It eases our financial burden, allowing me to dream of better days for my children and my brother," Adnan says.
The stories of Nadia and Adnan are but two among hundreds — narratives woven from the fabric of struggle and resilience that define life in the Palestinian camps of southern Lebanon. Their stories stand as testament to the unyielding spirit of a community determined to rise above adversity, yet their plight underscores the dire need for continuous support and solidarity.
During this month of Ramadan, let us remember that compassion knows no bounds, and solidarity knows no borders.
