In Khan Younis, we hosted wound management; ear, nose and throat; pediatric; orthopedic; physiotherapy; and urology clinics at our field primary healthcare center today, serving 336 patients. With support from Americares, our physiotherapy team conducted ‘home visits’ to conduct therapy sessions for patients in their tents.

Today, at our distribution center in Hebron in the West Bank, we received a new medical aid shipment from Direct Relief. The donation includes pediatric antibiotics (azithromycin), anti-gout medications (unavailable at public clinics for 18 months), anti-diabetic medications. We will soon distribute these medicines to health facilities across the West Bank.

In Gaza, we hosted wound management, physiotherapy, dermatology, gynecology, and general surgery clinics at our field primary healthcare center in Khan Younis today, serving 324 patients.

In northern Gaza, we distributed 7,925 gallons (30,000 liters or 30 cubic meters) of potable water, supporting 10,000 people.

March 25, 2025

Today, we continued our water trucking program to distribute 15,850 gallons (60,000 liters or 60 cubic meters) of clean drinking water to families in Gaza City and North Gaza.

And in Khan Younis, our field primary healthcare center hosted wound management; ear, nose, and throat; nutrition; internal; noncommunicable disease; and deworming clinics, seeing 275 patients.

March 24, 2025

“This morning, on our team call, staff from the north and the south shared what a horrific night they had endured. Bombs pounded the whole of Gaza nonstop, and quadcopters were firing throughout the night. People in Rafah and Deir Al Balah were ordered to evacuate immediately and not to take anything with them, not even a single piece of paper, or they would be shot. This nightmare is even more brutal than when it all began. Nothing is more devastating than giving people a sliver of hope, only to snatch it away and hit back even harder.” — Sandra Rasheed, Anera’s Palestine country director

One of our team in Al Zawayda, Deir Al Balah reports that people are desperately hungry. “This time is different. The situation is terrifying and frightening. There is a deliberate, prolonged policy of starvation, with intensified bombing and forced displacement.”

In grocery stores, many shelves are empty, including in big supermarkets. There are no eggs, cooking oil, or canned meat. Today, at the market there were no tomatoes or onions. For what remains, the prices are tripled.

Amid all this, families are each inventing their own “Gaza survival cookery.” Drawing on past experiences of acute hardship and relying largely on canned food, people are inventing new dishes.

This includes a variation on kofta, made now with canned meat distributed by Anera, spices, and shaped to look like real kofta. “And it tasted really good??”

With the same canned meat, she also made kibbeh bil laban, using bulgar and feta cheese for the laban (yogurt sauce).

A recipe for survival kibbeh:

  • canned meat
  • bulgur
  • 4 spoons of flour
  • spices

Many women in Gaza are sharing similar recipes that they’ve invented out of necessity. “When it is over, we’ll eat what we love,” one of our Gaza team says. “Now, we have to be strong and patient.”

Today, through our Women Can program we distributed 1,200 packages of maamoul (date-filled pastries, commonly consumed at Eid Al-Fitr and other holidays) to medical patients in Gaza City. Our production and distribution of these pastries was made possible with support from a private family foundation.

Also in northern Gaza, we distributed 15,850 gallons (60,000 liters or 60 cubic meters) of drinking water, supporting 20,000 people.

We also distributed 140, 000 meals today. These were World Food Programme-supplied ready-to-eat meal packages that we distributed to 4,000 displaced people in Mawasi Qarara, in Khan Younis. Many people have arrived in the area after fleeing forced evacuation orders and military attacks. Very few food stores remain after nearly a month of closure.

Also today, our field primary healthcare center in Khan Younis hosted wound management, pediatric, laser therapy, gynecology, general surgery, and psychiatric clinics, seeing 214 patients.

March 23, 2025

At our field primary healthcare center in Khan Younis, we hosted wound management, orthopedic, physiotherapy, nutrition, and laser therapy clinics, seeing 109 patients.

March 22, 2025

We are committed to doing everything we can to support our staff and maintain services during this difficult period. Following weeks of total blockade on goods into Gaza, fuel shortages are becoming acute limiting transportation options. To ensure our health center staff can reach the clinic, we have been using a rented car to bring our medical team to the center. Today, 11 of our healthcare center workers carpooled in the vehicle, ensuring they could continue their vital work at the clinics despite the ongoing restrictions.

Today, on our second day operating at the new location our Khan Younis field primary healthcare center saw 331 patients through our wound, dermatology, noncommunicable disease, internal medicine, and deworming clinics.

March 21, 2025

Today the Israeli military destroyed the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital in Mughraqa, north of the Nuseirat Refugee Camp in Deir Al Balah. It was the only facility treating adult cancer in Gaza.

We conducted no distributions or services today.

March 20, 2025

Families in Gaza City are again displaced, fleeing military assault, carrying what they can of their belongings.

Amid the return to war, our health clinics are providing essential medical services to patients in need.

Following several days of feverish work to relocate our tent complex, our Khan Younis field primary healthcare center reopened today at our new location, down the road from our previous site. Our wound management; ear, nose and throat; orthopedic; physiotherapy; urology; and pediatric clinics saw 129 patients.

And our field primary healthcare center in Deir Al Balah also reopened today following closure yesterday due to the newly intensified attacks on Gaza. Today, we added therapeutic nutrition to our clinic services. Since March 11, we hosted wound management; pediatric; gynecology and obstetrics; dermatology; internal medicine and noncommunicable diseases; ear, nose and throat; orthopedic; and therapeutic nutrition clinics, providing treatment to a total of 712 patients.

March 19, 2025

Today, our operations are at a minimum due to the dangers and uncertainties created by the renewed Israeli attacks.

Yesterday, we began the process of relocating our field primary healthcare center in Mawasi, Khan Younis to a new location some 300 meters (roughly two or three city blocks) away. We continued work today to establish the facilities in the new site. More people are arriving in Mawasi from Rafah and eastern Khan Younis, fleeing Israeli forces.

March 18, 2025

Overnight, the Israeli military launched a devastating wave of airstrikes across Gaza, claiming the lives of more than 400 people — one of the deadliest nights since the war began. Anera’s staff, thankfully, remain unharmed and have not had to evacuate at the time of writing. However, an estimated 65,000 survivors across Gaza, from Beit Hanoun to Rafah, have been ordered to evacuate and forced to flee their homes and shelters.

This latest escalation comes after more than two weeks without any humanitarian aid. Israel has closed all crossings since March 2. The remaining hospitals and clinics are struggling to treat the wounded, facing dangerously low or depleted supplies of medicines and healthcare items. AneraÂ’s primary healthcare centers in Deir Al Balah and Khan Younis were forced to temporarily halt their operations today due to the violence.

GazaÂ’s population is entirely reliant on aid, and with the crossings closed, food supplies have dwindled to catastrophic levels. Prices are beyond the reach of many, and the blockade continues to disrupt critical humanitarian efforts like AneraÂ’s, which have been vital in staving off famine. In the past days, the lack of supplies has forced us to pause our food distribution.

Since March 3, no aid has been permitted into Gaza. Anera’s health clinics are relatively well stocked due to shipments of medical aid that arrived shortly prior to the closure.

Anera is profoundly concerned by the closure of all entry points into Gaza, announced by Israel on Sunday, March 2, and immediately put into effect. The move, which halts critical aid shipments and guarantees a worsening of GazaÂ’s already dire humanitarian crisis, comes as negotiations on the next phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas falter. Read Anera’s full statement.
