Today, Anera was able to successfully distribute an estimated 36,500 kilograms (80,469 pounds) of beef for around 20,000 displaced households at informal shelters in Gaza. Originally secured in Egypt as qurbani for Eid Al Adha in mid-June, after a prolonged coordination process and many logistical challenges we are pleased to finally be able to provide this protein for people in southern Gaza. Many families have been unable to eat meat for many months as it is scarce and very expensive. This distribution, supported by Islamic Relief USA, Muslim Aid USA and Muslim Response USA for Relief and Development, helps to meet critical nutritional needs and offers a taste of foods that for the past year have only been available to most in fantasies.
It was an exhausting but rewarding day for our team. To successfully carry out the meat distribution, the Gaza team temporarily paused operations at our tekias in Deir Al Balah and Khan Younis today so that our staff could assist with this huge effort. Beginning at dawn, Anera’s dedicated team worked to ensure that approximately 110,000 displaced individuals received this meat.
