April 30, 2025

Today, we received an email from the World Food Programme informing us that their warehouses are now empty of food. During the month of April, with the World Food Programme’s support we provided food assistance to 17,000 families in the Qarara area of Khan Younis, distributing a total of 1,020,000 meals in the form of date bars and cooking oil. That assistance is now ended as the supplies have been exhausted. Nobody knows what will happen next or how families will continue.

In Deir Al Balah, our field primary healthcare center continues providing essential medical services to patients in need. Despite the challenges, our team remain committed to delivering essential healthcare to our community. Since April 22, we’ve operated wound management; pediatric; gynecology and obstetric; dermatology; internal medicine; ear, nose and throat; orthopedic; and therapeutic nutrition clinics, providing treatment to 1,268 patients.

With support from Dubai Cares, we distributed 39,626 gallons [150,000 liters] of potable water to 50,000 people in the south of Gaza and 7,440 hot meals. And in the north, we distributed 10,567 gallons [40,000 liters] of water to 13,333 people.

Several months ago, we donated around 1,700 insulin treatments to the Yazour Charitable Society in Balata Refugee Camp in Nablus. Diabetic patients have reported that their insulin had been destroyed in the military incursions that have escalated since January. Fortunately, thanks to these medical donations patients have been able to come to the Yazour Center to obtain their life-saving insulin.

Today, our lab in Khan Younis detected ketone bodies in a number of patients’ urine samples — a metabolic response to prolonged lack of food.

Our mobile health clinic recently visited AlaÂ’a, a woman with a 4-month-old child four other children. We diagnosed here with anemia and malnutrition. It was midday and Ala’a and her kids hadn’t yet eaten — there was no food for breakfast. She had no idea where their next meal would come from. Every day they are on the lookout for “any type of food from any source — but when? I can’t tell.”

GazaÂ’s water crisis has worsened significantly since Israel reimposed the total siege nearly two months ago on March 2. Despite all the challenges and fuel shortages, with support from Dubai Cares we continue to distribute potable water to hundreds of displaced families. Today, we distributed 1,585 gallons (6,000 liters or 6 cubic meters) of potable water for displaced families in Gaza City.

This initiative is a collaboration between our education and womenÂ’s empowerment programs, providing paid work for the bakers and nutrition for the students. As food shortages grow, we’re also distributing these pastries to lift childrenÂ’s spirits and encourage them to stay engaged in learning — even in the most difficult times.

Also today, our Khan Younis field primary healthcare center saw 313 patients through our physiotherapy (visiting 15 patients in their tents); wound management; internal medicine; nutrition; ear, nose and throat; deworming; and noncommunicable disease clinics.

These are not nutritionally optimal meals but as trucks of flour and ready-to-eat meals remain stuck outside Gaza behind closed crossings, we are prioritizing distributing any available calories to hungry families.

And our psychosocial support project, funded by the READ Foundation and operated in partnership with NAFS for Empowerment, hosted recreational activities for children ages 4-11 at the Asmaa Bint Abi Bakr Girls School. The activities are designed to offer fun and educational sessions that offer an opportunity for emotional release and expression.

We addressed malnutrition cases by providing therapeutic nutritional aids like high energy biscuits, lipid-based nutrient supplements, and ready-to-use therapeutic food. The deprivation is deep — it is essential for us to continue showing up.

We’re working to expand our health services to Gaza City. Today, we began work to establish a new healthcare center in western Gaza City. This comes at a time when many health facilities in Gaza have been destroyed or damaged, and the scarcity of healthcare services continues to grow worse. This new center will complement our existing facilities in Khan Younis and Deir Al Balah, strengthening our presence and support across Gaza.

April 9, 2025

In the West Bank, two of our staff were stopped at container checkpoint en route to a site visit today, turning the one hour drive into a three hour ordeal. Going to the restroom is a real challenge in such situations. The only option today was a single filthy unisex bathroom with a nonfunctional door. The incident is reflective of typical experiences rather than an exceptional occurrence.

Today, we resumed our recreation and psychosocial support activities in Al Astal Camp, Mawasi, Khan Younis this week, with funding by READ Foundation.

And with support from Dubai Cares and World Central Kitchen, we distributed 2,100 hot meals in southern Gaza today, helping to feed 6,300 people. Today, our community kitchen, or tekia, in Deir Al Balah, resumed its operations after a five-month absence. We distributed 900 hot meals at four makeshift camps across Deir Al Balah in response to the urgent food shortages caused by the now 39-day closure of Gaza’s crossings and the halt of goods and humanitarian aid.

We have opened two community kitchens, or tekias — one in Deir Al Balah and one in Mawasi, Khan Younis — serving displaced families. The kitchens package the hot meals for takeaway for convenience and to preserve people’s dignity. The available stock will only last about two weeks unless the crossings are reopened.

Abdul Salam, 30, and his one-year-old son, Fadi, join other displaced people at a water truck supported by Anera to collect drinking water in a makeshift camp west of Maghazi in the central Gaza Strip. Abdul Salam shared the hardships faced by displaced families in accessing clean water for drinking and daily needs, often walking long distances to gather and fill heavy water containers. He expressed hope that donor efforts will persist in supplying water to the camps and displaced people, emphasizing, “Water is life.”

In northern Gaza, we distributed 15,850 gallons (60,000 liters or 60 cubic meters) of clean water, providing hydration to 20,000 people.

This was the scene in front of our Khan Younis field primary healthcare center first thing this morning. A demand is a reflection of the urgent need we are responding to every single day. In addition to the patients waiting outside, many more were already inside, seeking care, relief, and hope.

And at our Khan Younis field primary healthcare center, we saw 391 patients through our wound management; general surgery; gynecology; dermatology; and physiotherapy (including outreach visits to families in their tents) clinics.

April 8, 2025

Also in Deir Al Balah, our field primary healthcare center continues to provide essential medical services. The center has hosted eight specialized health clinics since March 22, serving a total of 1,339 patients and providing specialized care in wound management; pediatrics; gynecology and obstetrics; dermatology; internal medicine and noncommunicable diseases, ear; nose; and throat; orthopedic; and therapeutic nutrition services.

Today, with support from Dubai Cares, AneraÂ’s team in the south distributed 10,567 gallons (40,000 liters or 40 cubic meters) of potable water, supporting 13,300 people.

With all of Rafah and much of Khan Younis under forced displacement orders, our field primary healthcare center in Khan Younis is seeing a surge in patients seeking medical care. This comes at a time when all health facilities are suffering from severe shortages in medicines and supplies due to the closure of all crossing points for more than a month.

Today, we hosted wound management, dermatology, internal medicine, deworming, noncommunicable disease, and physiotherapy clinics, serving a total of 525 patients.

One of our colleagues in northern Gaza shared this update today:

“A life of sheer nothingness, stripped of all basic needs. We are cooking over wood fires, without gas for cooking Bakeries have shut down and flour is becoming scarce in the markets. Subsisting on canned food and whatever little remains in the market, after the crossings have been shut for over a month. Endless suffering in every single detail of daily life. The relentless bombing and brutal targeting of civilians only deepen the tragedy, fueling displacement and forcing evacuations. There is no safety, no hope, no life. Our hearts have become graves, hollowed out by despair.”
